Commercialism is Killing Our Souls

Well, maybe SCIENCE is killing our souls a bit more directly but...

I'm finding a newfound respect for superstition, religion and kickass spiritual topics. No, I haven't found Jesus or anything, I just think I'm losing my utilitarian edge. Anyway...

"This world of modern science and commercialism changes any psuedo - superstitious/relgious kickass spiritual holiday into an excuse to FUCKING BUY CANDY AND ASSOCIATED STUPID SHIT." -Me

And people make a ton of money doing it.

I'm waiting for the tiny boxes of MLK Jr. candied protest signs. They'd be just like candied hearts but say things like "I have a dream" and "Civil Equality". My catch phrase: "Buy them or you're a bigot", "You're DIVERSE if you buy the new MLK Jr. Candied Protest Signs, stand up for your rights!", "Did I mention DIVERSE people buy these? You're DIVERSE, right?"

You know people would buy 'em. Ok, I'm done.

Edit: Oooooh, how about little gummy Rosa Parks busses? Please post ideas for more candy I could sell with guilt-driven commercialism.

LOL. You'll be happy to know that it doesn't exist everywhere (yet). Halloween, while a special night, for me anyway, is a non-event in Prague. Although, I do admit to buying a kinder egg and getting a plastic hunchback monster with a hinged head (it "bites" if you pull it back and let go) that I've named George, but I sang "Happy Birthday" to myself, so maybe that doesn't count. :)

welcome to disposable consumer culture....the only way to change this is for consumers to demand more...more awareness of who they are buying from, how it was made, who is profiting and how they invest, the only way I can see this is to support more local economy, buy from people you know, buy sell trade with people you know, ebay is great for opening the market for individual to sell good for a equitable rate. By what standard to we determine value, personally I think a good stereo receiver would be one with at least 5 graphic equilizers and no plastic parts....why pay to watch something break? >rants<
